Professor Andrew Coats

Professor Andrew Coats is currently a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Warwick, UK and President of the Heart Failure Association at the European Society of Cardiology.

Professor Coats studied at both Oxford and Cambridge University and published the first randomised trial of exercise training for chronic heart failure. Since then he has been Chairman or a Committee member of multiple major clinical trials and has over 100,000 citations.

In addition to serving as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cardiology from 1999–2016, Professor Coats has served as Head of Cardiology at Imperial College and the Royal Brompton Hospital, London; as Dean of Medicine and Deputy Vice-President at the University of Sydney; and as Academic Vice-President at the University of Warwick, UK.
